Why Smoke?
There are many harmful things that can effect you body in bad ways and smoking is one of them. Smoking effects your body because of the ingredients in it such as nicotine. Nicotine is a harmful drug that causes the addiction for smokers. People may have a couple of great things to say about smoking but there are also thousands of horrible things. In the following paragraph you'll find out more about smoking and cigarette's.
There are so many reasons smoking is horrible. First reason is that you will get bad breath and yellow teeth. Smokers get yellow teeth and bad breathe because of the products in cigarette's. Also, there is no benefit of smoking. Many smokers say they smoke because it releases stress and for fun but they are ruining their bodies. In a recent poles of Herbert Hoover Middle School's sixth graders, 100% of students said there is no benefit of smoking. This is an good that they think this way because they don't want dirty teeth and a smelly breath.
The second reason smoking is bad is that is causes nasal and breathing problems. The problem with smoking more and more is that you can get asthma. In recent poles 25% of people said this is a big problem. Would you smoke if you would get breathing problems? You can also get mouth and lung cancer which can kill people over a period of time. Over 50% of people say this is the worst possible affect of smoking. This is partially correct because it can put smokers in horrible condition. Moreover, smokers can get heart disease which they can stay alive but suffer forever. Lastly smoking is bad because smokers can have financial problems. Cigarette's are a lot of dollars and can put some addicts in debt. Right now, some cigarette boxes like Marbolo cost more than $6.00 and many smokers have one pack a day. The average amount of money spent every year because of cigarettes is about 8,000 dollars. Why would you want to waste your hard earns money?
Smoking is a dangerous addiction in which poeple are harming their bodies. Smokers should not try to quit smoking automatically because they are only killing themselves this way. Quitting should be a slow process and smokers should get help from outside resources such as nicotine patches. Would people smoke if what happened in the inside of their body showed on the outside? Furthermore people may have there personal opinion about smoking but some day they will suffer or pass away because of it. Thank you for reading this essay. Make the right choice for you and I hope you'll be happy with it!

Don't give lots of present you'll become spoiled
Forget the enduring controversy over regifting; I have been guilty of the much worse crime of holiday over-gifting. Last year the boxes and wrapping paper in our home constituted a fire hazard and, far from bringing joy and delight to my family, by the end of the day both were teary and frustrated – my older sister actually ran crying from the room when confronted with one-too-many gifts. Apart from avoiding meltdowns, there are concrete reasons to curb your spending (and that of friends and family around you).
Don't give too many gifts for Christmas, and your kids will be healthier for it
Dr. Maggie Mamen, a clinical psychologist and author of The Pampered Child Syndrome, says lavishing too many gifts on children leads to several problems:
Overgifting hurts your finances
In a 2005 survey the Retail Council of Canada found the average adult anticipated spending $1,357 on both gift and non-gift holiday expenses. Just imagine what you could do by redirecting some of that money.
Here's how to avoid giving too many gifts for Christmas
Cutting back can be harder than it sounds so we asked parents across the country for their best tips on paring down presents during the holidays.

Soon there won't be a flaborgastaion of gifts

Dr. Maggie Mamen, a clinical psychologist and author of The Pampered Child Syndrome, says lavishing too many gifts on children leads to several problems:
- Lack of gratitude- Children learn to expect a certain level of gift-giving and can become demanding and ungrateful for what they receive.
- Competition- Trying to give a child the biggest or the most gifts sends a dangerous message that love is measured by the size or generosity of gifts given.
- Overstimulation- Studies show that babies learn better when they can absorb one thing at a time – too many toys actually prevents them from focusing and learning.

Our parent experts say planning is key. Here are some of the strategies they use:
Set limits . Decide on the number of gifts your children should receive. There are no hard-and-fast rules, and everyone is different – the important thing is to decide what’s right for your family.
Make a list . Check it twice. And stick to it.
Draw names . In bigger families gift-giving can get out of control (and expensive) if everybody buys for everybody else. A family draw means fewer, and likely more meaningful, gifts.

Holiday Persuasive
Approaching Grandma's, our family anticipates the grand holiday about to be re kindle dance again. With our family and friends about to be reunited with each other, each family member is trying not to notice how long the last kilometer is taking. The trees along the road seem to crawl by slower as Dad pushes his foot harder. Inch by inch, Second by second, we approach the long awaited to the destination.
Finally when we arrive at Grandma's house our long journey is over. We each take a huge breath as we step out onto the crispy snow that snaps beneath ou r boots. The air is fresh and creates a shiver down my spine. I make my way to the frost coated back door, illuminated by the green and red Christmas lights.
As I open the door and step into a house full of cheek pinches and hugs, an array of Christmas oders engulfs me, and makes my mouth water. As I yell "HELLO" I hear voices laughing, talking, and asking who's at the door? In the next second "Millions" of relatives are giving me there greetings and gladly inviting us into the house. As my family and I are quickly made comfortable, I look around.....
Plates full of Christmas pastries, Christmas decorations, and Christmas music lightly penetrates the air as the family socializes with each other. The constant murmer of the voices, serves as a background for the music. My cousins are running making their laps around the living room while playing tag and laughing to their hearts content.
I hear a voice saying "My have you ever grown up!" I turn to my left and stand up to address my complimenter. Grandma, awaken from her heavenly sleep, stands slightly crouched with an antique smile painted gracefully across her face. I reach out and hug her frail body. We both sit down and talk about my families prolonged journey to her house.
The rest of the night carries on similar to this and to my suprise, supper is served. Everyone is seated at the large oak table with crazed looks apon their faces. Eager to devour whatever is set before them, each family member is tempted by the tantalizing smell of the vast amounts of goods presented to them. My mind goes blank.... almost like a sudden amnesia, I start to dig into the delicious plate of delightful treasures, and then find myself in a daze laying on the couch, in what seems to be about an hour later.
I listen and watch the building excitement found in each of my cousins faces as they think of ravagly rippin gradically at the smooth silky present paper. Santa is Coming! Santa is Coming!
Just then a loud voice yells," Time to open presents, Santa is here!"
A uncontrollable excitement over comes my cousins as then they fly into the room that contains that heavenly Christmas Tree. I get up with a sudden surge of excitement and proceed to the door. An amazing sight grabs my eye's attention. The tree, decorated in beautiful perfection with candy canes, ribbons, and ornaments of all shape and color. This sight fascinates myself as well as everyone that sets their eye's on it. Christmas at my Grandma's, my forever cherished memory.

The holidays are coming soon, during the holiday’s is the time to spend time with your family as you may know. Everybody in my family are always excited for Christmas because you come to our house in the morning. Since you are Santa Claus you have the power to go around and give good kids like me presents that we wish for. Every Christmas you brighten kids mornings. I hope you brighten mine, you can do that by giving me a reindeer bell. This gift will allow me to prove to my friends that you are real. I have been asking for a reindeer bell for the past two years and I’m not giving up until I get one. This will be a good way to prove to my family, friends, and I that you are real.
Also, this reindeer bell will be in good hands so don’t worry about a thing. This reindeer bell will be put on our Christmas tree. And Santa Claus please, please can you give me a reindeer bell from Rudolph. It is a dream of mine to get a reindeer bell from Rudolph.
As you know I am very good and only make minor mistakes. Not having a reindeer bell enables my friends, and many others to believe in you. As I mentioned before I have a Christmas Tree and it has ornaments if you give me this very special bell it will be on there forever. Making sure that some of my friends believe you is a hastle. It is very hard, since I believe you I strive to make other feel like me. With a reindeer bell for proof it won’t be a hastle but very easy to convince these kid.
I know this time of year you have to fulfill the request of other kids but can you please with all my heart fulfill mine. I will be so grateful if you give this to me. Grating my Christmas wish will make me and all the kids that will soon believe you so very happy. If you can not give me this I will still thank you for being so kind and giving me those other gifts that I have asked for.

How Thanksgiving Started
The first Thanksgiving was probably not what we think it was. The Thanksgiving we now celebrate a feast of togetherness between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans-- was not the original gathering.
It is true that Squanto and his fellow Native Americans helped the Pilgrims to grow crops and get sap from trees and survive the harsh winters of what would become New England. But the very first harvest feast that these two peoples enjoyed was not called Thanksgiving. Rather it was a celebration of the fall harvest, when vegetables were pulled from the ground and off stalks and made ready for a big meal.
So we have two ideas coming together: a day of Thanksgiving for the fall harvest, on which people fasted and prayed, and a great feast to celebrate the bounty of the fall harvest. Since both activities celebrated the same thing--the fall harvest--it's only natural that they eventually merged (like so many other American holidays).

Pilgrims and Native Americans dined together at the same tables, yes, and they played games together and demonstrated their bow-and-arrow and musket-shooting skills to each other. But they didn't call it Thanksgiving until 1624. That year, William Bradford, the governor of the Plymouth colony, proclaimed a day of Thanksgiving that was really a day of fasting and prayer. (Remember, fasting is when you don't eat. So, Thanksgiving started out as a day of not eating.) Also, the day the members of the Plymouth Colony celebrated this day of fasting and prayer in thanksgiving was November 29.
This merged celebration continued informally through the years, until 1863, when President Abrabham Lincoln declared the fourth Thursday of November a national holiday called Thanksgiving.
How did we decide on eating Turkey? Well, that's another story.

Gratitude
I am grateful for my home, family, and food. Some people don’t have shelter and some people don’t have family because they don’t have food. Family is very important because without family the only support you have is from yourself. Having a secure shelter is very important because without it you cant live thought the winter and rain (cold weather.) Food is very important because without food you can get dehydrated and starve to death. So remember don’t ever think you don’t have enough because some don’t have it at all.

Halloween
It was the scariest night of my life. I thought I was going to have a fun night at my friend, Kayla Laposta's house for a sleepover. I was so wrong.
It was a rainy night when I arrived at Kayla's house. The moon was full, but there wasn’t a single star in the sky. I knocked on the door and heard Kayla's voice screaming for someone to answer it. I shook my head as the door violently flew open. For a moment, I almost thought it was going to come off its hinges.
Kayla appeared before me, looking very annoyed.

Kayla appeared before me, looking very annoyed.
“Hi, . Are we having a bad day?” I asked, walking into the living room.
Kayla sighed. “Yeah, you could say that. Nobody seems to know how to answer the door around here except for me.” Kayla looked at her older brother, Jim, who was sitting on the couch.
Jim rolled his eyes and popped some more chips into his mouth. “Calm down,” he said with his mouth full. “It’s not that big of a deal.”
Kayla looked over at him with disgust as he wiped potato chip crumbs off of his shirt. Jim got up and put on his coat.
“I have a very important date tonight, so I’m leaving you ladies alone. Mom said to not destroy the house or else. They’ll be back around midnight.” Jim waved and left.
As soon as the door was closed, Kayla smiled widely. “Everyone’s upstairs waiting. Let’s go.” Kayla grabbed my hand and dragged me upstairs.
Our two other friends, Jessica and Laura were up there, waiting on Kayla’s bed.

“There you are, Sweta!” Jessica said to me. “We have been waiting forever for you to get here.”
I shrugged, not knowing what to say. It wasn’t my fault my parents didn’t want to let me go tonight. They wanted me to stay home in case a bad storm hit. We all sat in a circle on the floor, talking about what happened at school that day. After awhile, Kayla appeared to be getting bored with Jessica’s conversation about a boy she liked.
“I have an idea,” she said with a grin. “Let’s tell ghost stories instead.”
Everyone else nodded and Jessica volunteered to go first. She sat up straight and pushed her long, brown hair out of her face. Before she could speak, thunder rumbled loudly in the distance. I looked out the window as lightning flashed and the lights flickered.
Jessica cleared her throat and started her story. “There once was a girl named Amber who had all of her friends over for a party. They were all having fun and laughing when they heard a mysterious knock at the door. It was late and nobody was expecting anyone. The knocking got louder and louder. Everyone was terrified of who it could be. None of the girls could move to even look to see who was at the other side. As lightning flashed across the black sky, the lights went out, and everyone screamed. Then, they heard the door open slowly with a loud creak. No one made a single sound. Amber sat very still until she began to feel a very cold, wet hand on her shoulder. Amber freaked out and…” Jessica stopped and looked around. “Did you hear that?” she asked.

We all listened and heard a loud, scratching sound. It got closer and closer. Then, as it started getting faster, the lights went out.
Jessica and started Kayla screaming at the top of their lungs. I tried to calm them down, but it was no use.

“Guys, chill out! It’s just the storm. That’s all!” I shouted over them.
They stopped only to listen to the scratching sound nearby. My heart started to race, but I had to be brave. I gathered up the courage and grabbed a flashlight sitting on Kayla’s dresser. I walked to her bedroom door and threw it open.
“Where in the world are you going?” Jessica asked.
I didn’t answer as I looked up and down the dark hallway. Shadows danced across the walls, playing with my imagination. I listened for the scratching noises and followed them. They were coming from Jim’s room! I took a deep breath and flung open the door. As soon as I walked in, the scratching got louder and faster. My heart was beating wildly and I felt like I was about to suffocate with fear. I stopped to hear where the sound was coming from. It sounded like it was coming from Jim’s closet.
“You can do this,” I whispered to myself. “You’re brave.”
I slowly reached for the door knob and turned it. It creaked as I opened the door. I started to shine the flashlight into the darkness when something jumped out at me. I screamed and fell over backwards. I heard a meow right before I fainted.

Why Patriotism still matters?
Does patriotism still matter? Of course it does. Patriotism matters because of all the soldier and veterans that fought to make our country free.
Why wouldn’t it matter, these men and woman risked there lives for us. I wouldn’t have risked my life if it didn’t matter anymore. Some of the wars and battles that soldiers and veterans fought are the Revolutionary War, World War, World War 1, World War 2, and the Civil War.
The country is the way it is today because of the fellow solider and veterans. I would like to say thank you veterans and soldier for fighting to make this country free. I appreciate (many others do to) you fighting for freedom and to make our country more safe. You make us feel like we are secure. Patriotism is a word that means honor, courage to risk there lives, and stay from there loved ones. There are also people (including me) that honor you for you hard work that makes our country free. That’s why patriotism still matters. Once again I would like to say thank you to all the veterans’ soldiers.

Ralph Flecher Excerpt
In Marshfield Dreams: I was a kid, Ralph Flecher; he talks about important events in his life. The excerpt I read is very easy to comprehend yet is very organized, and sophisticated. In his excerpt he talks about this BIC pen he adores. "I starred at my BIC, the cartridge filled with blue ink so dark it’s almost black. What words are hidden-unborn, unwritten- in all that unused ink?" (Flecher, 2005, .p. 44) I would think it is just a pen but it was more than that to him.” He was a real good baby and a terrific brother. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him. (Flecher, 2005, .p. 60) in this sentence he tells his feeling to use and shares something very emotional. "Mom said they are just like strangers- some are good some are bad, and since you cant tell the difference it was best to leave them alone. (Flecher, 2005, .p. 4) I liked this passage because it was interesting how the mom compare humans to mushrooms. As shown in this writing Ralph Flecher is a very good writer.

Beary
Beary is the teddy bear that I had every since I was a baby. It brings back so many memories. I took it every where to my doctor’s appointment to play with my friend to pres-school, everywhere. I love him so much because when I was sad he keeps me company. My point is that he makes me feel safe and sound. But sadly one day on the beach he got lost so he was gone forever.

Taylor Lautner
In my opinion i think Taylor Lautner is a really good actor. In twilight, New moon and Eclipse he tried to steal Bella away from Edward. Edward ran away from Bella and she tried to follow him but since he is so fast, she wasn't able to get him. Jacob (Taylor) found her in the woods just lying there and they were trying to finds her for hours.

New School
A new school holds new friends, new teachers, and new classes. I am have started school, it's not an ordinary school it a new school. I would like to talk about how hard it is to transition from going to a class, going to my locker, and than going to another class. Some of my classes are close like my 1st and 2nd period classes they are right next to each other. But when it comes to going to 2nd to 3rd period it's very hard. In four minutes I have to go from room 121 to room 110, it seems close but it’s all the way on the other side of the school.
